1895. The scarce second printing of the Hugh Thomson edition. Original green cloth with gilt Art Nouveau Peacock decoration and titles to front and spine. 7.25 by 5.25 inches. All edges gilt. 476 pages. Illustrated throughout by Hugh Thomson. A very attractive copy, with excellent old professional repair to spine, and replaced cream endpapers (see pictures). Gilt to spine and front slightly dulled, slight bumping and wear to the corner tips (see pictures). Internally clean. Binding sound and square (see picture). Light browning to prelims and last few leaves. A lovely example of the second printing of this famous deluxe edition. Hugh Thomson (1860 - 1920) was an Irish illustrator born in Coleraine. He is best known for his series of beautifully produced gift books in a similar style ("crown octavo with three edges gilt, bound in dark green cloth, front and spine heavily stamped in gold").
