Kubota Kinsen
JAPANESE MASKS Antique Book 64 Plates KUBOTA KINSEN c1925 Japan SAMURAI Noh VTG
1925. Very good condition, ultra rare Japanese mask book, in the original binding! Japanese Masks Description Printed circa 1925. Compiled by Kubota Kinsen. Kubota Kinsen 久保田金仙 (1875-1954) Kubota Kinsen was born in Kyoto. His father Kubota Beisen and his brother Kubota Beisai were also painters. He worked in a newspaper company as a reporter and was a correspondent in the wars between Japan and China, and later with Russia. Text is in Japanese, but fortunately the original bookseller's hand typed catalog entry was pasted down to the inside cover (see 4th image above). Bound in the original wraps with sewn binding which is showing wear around edges; including small tears and chips, but for being a nearly 100 year old paper bound book, the condition is quite nice. All pages present, and book is complete. Previously owned by Marylhurst University, who kept the book in their non-circulating special collections from 1959 until their closure in 2018. No other copies online, including all libraries or reprinting services. Offered with free Media Mail shipping to any address in the U.S. Will be packaged securely for protection during shipping. [Attributes: First Edition]
