Copy no. 63 of 110 copies on hand-made laid paper, signed by the artist in the publisher's imprint. - The Czech painter of Jewish descent Friedrich Feigl (1884-1965) studied at the Prague Art Academy. In the spring of 1905 he was expelled from the university for "art revolutionary activities". In 1910 Feigl went to Berlin, where he took part in the exhibition of the New Secession in 1911 and 1912. In 1928 he was a founding member of the Prague Secession and in February 1930 he took part in the unique exhibition of Jewish artists of the 19th century. and 20th Century, which took place in the Fénix Palace in Wenceslas Square. After the occupation of Prague, he was arrested by the Germans and taken to a camp. On the intervention of the Artist's Refugee Committee, he was able to emigrate to England with his wife. During the Nazi era, over 20 Feigl's pictures were removed from German museums. - The etchings for Balzacs Gobseck are a high point in his graphic illustration work. - Very well preserved.
