Plath, Sylvia
Rainbow Press, 1971. Limited Edition. Vellum. No. 10 of the deluxe edition, bound in full vellum (total edition 400), quarto size, 39 pp. Fine. The third book published by Rainbow Press, the imprint of Ted Hughes (1930-1998) and his sister Olwyn Hughes, "Lyonnesse" is a collection of previously unpublished poems by Sylvia Plath (1932-1963); following Plath's suicide in 1963, her husband Ted Hughes inherited her estate and her writings, and many of her works were posthumously published by Hughes even though there were so many stories surrounding their marriage at the time of her suicide. This volume of "Lyonnesse" is the deluxe edition (only ten were thus bound), featuring a gorgeous vellum binding and endpapers with facsimiles of two of Plath's poems in the book; it is a testament to the care and detail given by Ted and Olwyn Hughes to their publications at Rainbow Press, as well as to the poignant poetry of Sylvia Plath. ___DESCRIPTION: Full vellum, gilt lettering on the front board and spine, top edge gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut, facsimiles of Sylvia Plath's manuscripts as endpapers, title page in yellow-brown and black; monotype Ehrhardt, Hodgkinson handmade paper, quarto size (11.5" by 7.75"), pagination: [i-vi] 1-31 [32-33], one of 10 of the deluxe edition (total edition 400), this number 10.
