1633 1ed Septuagint BIBLE English John Donne Aristeas Library of Alexandria RARE
London: N. Okes, 1633. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. 'History of the Septuagint' is a fascinating and important treatise on the history of the Holy Land from the perspective of a 2nd-century author, Aristeas. Aristeas focuses mainly on diplomacy and correspondence of the Egyptian king Ptolemy II with the Temple in Jerusalem in hopes of having the Hebrew works in his library translated into Greek (thus, the development of the Septuagint). This work also details the geography and topography of Jerusalem, Egyptian court life, and voyages to and from Alexandria. Curiously, this work is also known to be the first mention of the Library of Alexandria. This 1633 first English edition was completed by English poet John Donne. [Attributes: First Edition]
