Lancelot Voisin de la Popeliniere was a Protestant author and found himself excommunicated by the National Synod of Reformed Churches for his publication of this work. It was a definitive work by La Popeliniere and this translation is by Sir Edward Hoby. Hoby was an important English diplomat during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. He translated many works that supported the Protestant cause. Popeliniere was a great advocate for the expansion of France through colonization. He first published this history of France in 1581. A very scarce work, and assumed first English edition. The ESTC do not have an earlier record of this work. ESTC reference no: S121258. With the signatures: A6-Y6, Z1. Collated, lacking the final blank. Printed by John Windet at Powles Wharfe at the signe of the Crosse Keyes. Contemporary inscription to the margin of O4.
