DICKENS, Charles - Dombey and Son - FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS - 1846
DICKENS, Charles. Dombey and Son (20 Parts in 19). London: Bradbury & Evans, 1846-8. A NEARLY PERFECT FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS. 20 parts in 19, illustrated with 40 plates by H K. Browne, plates cleaner than normal without the usual extreme foxing and toning, the spines are original. THE COLLATION - complete with all the Dombey Advertiser's present in each part. PART 1: lacking 1 rear ad (Just Published... Gilbert's College Atlas). PART 9: first issue of text, with the word "Delight" instead of "Joy" mentioned twice on page 284. PART 10: lacking 1 rear ad (Gilbert's Dictionary). PART 11: earliest issue with "Capatin" on the last line of p.324. PART 13: with an additional ad not called for in Hatton & Cleaver. PART 14: page number 427 present but "if" omitted on p.426 line 9, PART 19/20: earliest issue with 2 line errata. Housed in 2 full red morocco solinder slipcases, raised bands gilt lettered spines. Overall a better than average set, entirely unsophisticated with the exception of some small expert repairs to the foot of several issues, overall VERY GOOD. Dickens in parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find in their earliest issue for a reasonable price in good condition. Who we are - D&D Galleries was founded in 1985.
