Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1933) 'Apache Devil', US signed first edition, association
very good book with near fine to fine dust jacket. Edgar Rice Burroughs (1933) 'Apache Devil', US first edition, first printing, published by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc, in Tarzana, California. An important association copy, inscribed by the author to his brother Henry, the father of Studley Burroughs who provided the dust jacket art and the internal illustrations. Inscribed less than two months after the publication (February 15, 1933): "To Henry with love and best wishes Ed / Malibu April 9, 1933". Original dustjacket front cover glued to pastedown by the author, as often in copies presented to Henry. Ex-libris bookplate of Henry's wife Ella Oldham Burroughs to the front pastedown. Condition: Very good book in near fine to fine dust jacket. The book tight with the slightest lean, covers lightly spotted and rubbed at the edges, spine toned and frying at crown and foot. Topstain lightly faded but retaining the red color, pages faintly toned, otherwise clean and unmarked. The supplied dustjacket is in the unlaminated state and shows only a shadow of wear to note. 'Apache Devil', the sequel to 'The War Chief' (1927) is the 39th Burroughs' book and the fourth published by his own company. It is uncommon in an original dustjacket but scarce signed or inscribed. Very desirable with such a beautiful family association. First and Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]
Bookseller: First and Fine (firstandfine) [Birmingham, United Kingdom]
