Charles Dickens
CHARLES DICKENS - AMERICAN NOTES - 1842 - FIRST EDITION - CLOTH BINDINGS - RARE
1842. For sale is a rare First Issue of the First Edition set of American Notes for General Circulation, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1842. Two Volumes. Complete. All of Smith's First Issue points here present. Bound in the publisher's original horizontally-ribbed brown cloth, with decoration in gilt to the spines, and in blind to the boards. Original yellow-coated endpapers. Externally they remain in most pleasing order; the cloth and tooling exceedingly crisp and fine. Predictable extraneous rubbing and marking in places, and the odd small nick and split to the hinges; these, however, remain very firm. Internally, aside from the odd spot, they are as clean and fresh as one could hope for. Overall, this is a rare title, and one of the cleanest we have handled. The original bindings are a joy to see, and this set could not come more highly recommended. [Attributes: First Edition]
