Edward Condon's Signed Berkeley College Book -- Manhattan Project, UFO, & Radar
1923. Edward Condon's Signed Berkeley College Book on Interpolation & gifted to Raymond Thayer Birge The book is signed by Edward Condon and dated 1923 during his three year study of theoretical physics at University of California Berkeley. His margin notes are throughout the book with some pencil drawing. The book was gifted to his doctoral advisor Raymond Thayer Birge during the year 1934, whom released a paper that year with W. Edwards Deming called "On the Statistical Theory of Errors". The note says "in the interests of the general physical constants". R. T. Birge was the president of the American Physical Society, member of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Physic building named after him at Berkeley called Birge Hall. Condon was an associate professor of physics at Princeton, worked on the Manhattan Project, radar, the Condon Report on UFOs, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Corning Glass Company, and others. Condon was the victim of McCarthyism and defended by many notable scientists -- including Albert Einstein. Condon has a lasting legacy in the field of Chemistry, physics, and having moon crater named after him. The book is in excellent condition with little signs of wear on the binding and minimal yellowing on the pages. This book is one of a kind and played a personal role in the education of Edward Condon and gift to R. T. Birge.
