Williams & Norgate, 1881. First Edition. Hard Cover. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Good. V1:503 pp. V2: 684 pp. 27.5 x 20 cm. Brick colored cloth-covered boards with gilt titling to spine. Two volume set signed and inscribed from author to British journalist and author Byron Webber. Both volumes have chipping to the head and tail of each spine which has been repaired, and the paste-downs/front endpapers have been replaced. Both volumes have light foxing to the first and last few pages. Horizontal closed tear of 1.5" to p. 227/228 of Volume I extending inward from the fore-edge. Pp. 243-248 also have similar tears, although the smallest is 5.5", and the largest is 7", which nearly touches the gutter. Overall the two volumes are in very good condition with clean text blocks, tight bindings, and only moderate rubbing to the brown cloth covers.
