Florenz, Karl Poetical Greetings from the Far East, ...
Book was made in 1896 and belongs to the very first print run of this book. One of the few english literatures printed in Japan using a Woodblock. The artists Shoso (Mishima Yunosuke), Kwason (Suzuki Sotaro), Yoshimune (Arai Shujiro) and Sadahiko (Yeda Masajiro). Illustrated front and back covers, title page. Pages are woven out of crepe silk. At least two printings of this book have been recorded. Both contain the same basic colophon (indicating Meiji 29 - 1896). On the colophon page of each book there is a book list. These lists vary significantly. The earlier printing states the 10 Hiyoshicho address in English in the book list and in the Japanese in colophon. The later printing (ca c1912) has the 17 Kami Negishi address in English in the book list and in Japanese in the colophon. The color schemes on the front covers vary slightly. The internal pages of the two printings are basically the same. Both printings were issued with folding cases.
