Recent quarter calf over paper-covered boards, raised bands and lettering piece to spine, endpapers renewed. Light toning to text, negligible foxing to a few leaves. An attractive copy. * Only edition. Edited by Hearne, this was the first modern edition of an important medieval manuscript. Written sometime between 1122 and 1124, the Textus Roffensis consists of two separate works written sometime between 1122 and 1124. Something of a miscellany, it includes the Laws of Aethelbert, the oldest surviving English law code and the oldest Anglo-Saxon text, and the coronation charter of Henry I of England (1100).
