Craig, Neville B.; C. G. F. Dumas
1843 manuscript handwritten translation of Dumas's preface to Col. Henry Bouquet's 1764 expedition against the Ohio Indians and account of the 1763 Battle of Bushy Run
(Pittsburgh): 1843. 12 leaves, handwritten in 1843 either by Neville Craig (certainly he added notes, etc.) or a hired clerk. Dumas had translated Bouquet's journal from English into French in 1769, so his preface is the only part that needed to be translated into English for Craig's purposes. Craig notes that this will appear in the December 1843 issue of "The Olden Time" on p. 201. General light edgewear and soil, pages bound together with an old rose colored thin cotton ribbon and housed in cloth chemise and slipcase (both lightly shelfworn), probably late 19th century. Craig's compilation "The Olden Time" remains the greatest single source of primary material on the early colonial history of the Upper Ohio Valley including Western Pennsylvania and was published between 1843 and 1844 both as separate issues and as two bound volumes. Good.
