Victor Sporting Goods
Leo Durocher (MLB Yankees Reds Dodgers Giants Cubs) 1913-18 Baseball Score Book
Springfield, MASS: Victor Sporting Goods Company, 1913. This is very worn and stained but holding together. Consider that it was taken to many baseball games over five years to record details (in pencil). This score books was there. See photos to get better idea of condition, overall Fair. I acquired it from the estate of one of the most prominent rare book dealers on the West Coast. Among other things he severed a term as president of the ABAA. So what the heck is this? This is a baseball record book that has entries starting in 1913, West Springfield High School games. In 1914 in the records first appears Leo's older brother. He plays in numbers games thru 1914. Details of his performance (along with other players) is recorded in pencil. Then on May 16th, 1918, for the first time appears Leo Durocher. That game is the last recorded in this book. Leo himself was suspended or expelled for slapping a teacher (gee, you think the young guy has a temper on him?) and never was to return. He set off for a life in baseball. He was a major league player for the Yankees, the Reds, the Cardinals and the Dodgers (he got around). Then as a manager for the Dodgers,Giants, Cubs, Astros and briefly with the Taiheiyo Club Lions. He is well worth looking up. Far too many details to go into here. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and he was on four World Series winning teams. But maybe a high spot that was dramatized in the movie "42" about the life of Jackie Robi … [Click Below for Full Description]
