Antonio Carnicero c.1790
Antique Bullfight Engravings by Antonio Carnicero c.1790
1790. Offered is a rare set of 12 hand colored plates from Antonio Carnicero's Collecion de las Principales Suertes de una Corrida de Toros published c.1790. The set comprises 12 hand colored engravings on laid paper by Luis Fernández Noseret after the original drawings by Antonio Carnicero. The images depict the various stages of a bullfight in meticulous detail. At some point these were apparently framed, and attached to backing boards around the edges, but just around the edges; most of each sheet is NOT attached to the backing. Plates 10, 11 and 12 have come unglued so you can see in the pictures how they were attached just around the edges. One plate has sustained some loss to a section of the margin but it does not go into the image area (see photos), but the other plates are in very good condition except for their mounting (see photos). Image area measures 14cm x 22.8cm.
