Illustrated with a full-page engraved title-page and 70 engraved maps, plans and schematics (69 of which are double page, and one single page). Second additional title page to Pt. 2. Continuous pagination. 504, 44 [index and appendix, plus final colophon leaf). Bound in contemporary mottled calf, with gilt ruling to boards. Spine richly gilt in compartments, within 6 raised bands. Dark morocco label with gilt lettering. Speckled edges. Ex-libris 'Hopetoun' library, with armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Size: 4to (31.3cm x 19.5cm). Very Good to Near Fine condition. Head of spine a little chipped, corners a bit worn. Light surface scuffing and wear to boards. One plate a little edge-worn along top edge and with minor age-toning to borders. Light overall age-toning to a couple of other plates, and one with small stain, otherwise plates generally in very nice shape. Narrow pale staining to top edge of pages and plates from 303-350. Very small paper flaw (hole abrasion to blank fore-edge of one text leaf. Light scattered spotting to several leaves, mainly in the blank margins. Collated and complete.
