[Photo Album]: New York
New York: [circa 1910]. Hardcover. Small octavo. Measuring 7" x 7". Black cloth over stiff paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 46 sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring 2.5" x 2.5", with captions. Good only album with a broken gutter, worn edges, and rubbing with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by W.A. Winter around 1910 of his family and friends in New York. The album opens with a handwritten note on the inside of the front board which reads, "all these taken and developed by W.A. Winter Jr." Winter was an amateur photographer and enthusiast of the art itself. He took photos of Coney Island with images of the crowds, the amusement rides, and the sea. Following this are photos of a race in Goshen, New York and the Winter house on Lexington Ave in New York. Winter frequently photographed his family and friends in posed portrait style photos. He also captured scenery of local parks including Central Park and Bronx Park. The final page shows a smiling woman in a fashionable hat and the Bronx Park Museum. A pleasing collection of turn-of-the-century amateur photography.
