1792. Journal Historique et Litteraire. Maastricht: Francois Cavelier. 656, 648, 652, 664, 656, 656 (six runs; the last three are bound in four, to make seven volumes). The complete years 1792 and 1793 of this long-running bi-monthly political journal - prime years as a chronicle of the French Revolution and its wars under the editorship of the Jesuit Francois-Xavier de Feller. An unexpected find BOUND IN to one of the volumes (not called for) is an original 4pp. 1792 printing of the Brunswick Manifesto, an important counter-revolutionary proclamation that contributed to the escalation of the French Revolution. ("Declaration Que Son Altesse Serenissime le Duc Regnant De Bronsvic & de Lunebourg, Commandant les Armees Combinees de Leurs Majestes l'Empereur & le Roi de Prusse, Adresse aux Habitans de la France.") Browned, considerably trimmed, with text a bit nicked at the bottom edge. Tucked between pp. 552 and 553, 1 Aout 1792. The declaration is also reproduced in the text of the same volume, on pages 613-617. Bound in seven volumes, in wraps. Externally worn and chipped. Spines cracking, textblocks weak and threatening to crack apart in places, but still largely intact apart from a few loose signatures. Pages have yellowing, many creased corners, sporadic foxing, smudges, nicks, small stains, other blemishes; a couple of volumes have a wormhole or two in the margin for a while, and one volume has a small worm-track across the title page and a couple of other leaves.
