With title woodcut (nursery) and 73 woodcut woodblock prints by Jost Amman, partly half parchment in the style of the time. Language: German Order number: 142699 Comments: * VD16 R 3579. Garrison / Morton 6141. Becker, Amman, 106f. - The most popular and well-known work by the Zurich city doctor. It was first printed in Zurich in 1554 as "A funny solace book" and shortly afterwards in Latin translation as "De conceptu et generatione hominis". The Frankfurt publisher Siegmund Feyerabend then published the first illustrated edition in 1580, increasingly with a forty-page appendix "on the other part of this midwife booklet" for infant care. This was followed by further editions in the same pages in 1588 and 1600. The famous woodcuts (partly by Jost Amman) show childbirth, nursery, childcare, childbirth chair, gynecological instruments; but also monsters and miscarriages. - The first 2 sheets with minor marginal blemishes at the bottom, pages partially a little bit stained at the bottom.
