Schüling, Prael, 14. - Very rare first edition of this part of the Pentateuch Commentaries by Archbishop Hrabanus Maurus of Mainz, edited by Johannes Ichtyotrophius. - Hrabanus Maurus (also: Rabanus or Rhabanus), b. around 780 in Mainz; died 4. February 856 in Winkel im Rheingau) was a monk and abbot of the Fulda monastery, priest, university scholar and Archbishop of Mainz. As a scholar, abbot and archbishop he is one of the most important figures of the early medieval Carolingian era. - "Rabanus is indisputably one of the most outstanding men of that time, both ecclesiastically and scientifically ...
