1889 Stanley's Story Prospectus Salesman Book
1889. Red full morocco with hinged flap, with embossed emblems and title in gold which has faded, back cover has the half morocco style with green boards and title in gold which is faded. The front endpaper has wrinkle and hole, previous owner writing on back and name on front fly leaf. At least two of the pink descriptive papers have been torn out of the book and a small tear to the first color page. There is shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine, along the top and bottom boards and also bumping to all four corners. The spine is firm with the hinges firmly attached, no slanting, and no cracking to the endpapers. Text block is firm and all pages are firmly attached. There is age tanning throughout. The interior pages but are in excellent condition with no damage or previous owner markings except as described above. 533 pages when published. "Stanley's Story or Through the Wilds of Africa" was published in 1890 by numerous publishers but this is not that book but rather the prospectus or salesman copy which was published in 1889. It is fundamentally different from the actual book as it 1) has a full morocco cover over cloth hardbound boards, 2) the first 10 pages are of color chromolithograph illustrations, 3) over one hundred monotone and black and white illustrations, 4) Pink insert descriptions that explain the book, 5) an outline of the chapters (but not all of the text), 6) numerous pages for the sales person to record … [Click Below for Full Description]
