A bright and pleasing set from this French literary master. A towering figure in French letters, Victor Hugo is most familiar as the author of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) and Les Miserables (1862). But Hugo published for more than 50 years, and this stunning set captures this practitioner of French Romanticism in his full capacity as a novelist. Before the publication of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, the Cathedral had fallen into disrepair and stood a forlorn and largely forgotten monument of French Gothic architecture. But the novel's popularity brought tourists streaming into the city to visit the grand Cathedral, and this sudden publicity compelled restoration and renovation of the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Hugo's literary output not only changed French letters but the architecture of Paris itself. just about Fine.
