Copy No. 63 of 110 copies on handmade paper, signed by the artist in print. - The Czech painter of Jewish descent Friedrich Feigl (1884-1965) studied at the Prague Art Academy. In spring 1905 he was expelled from the university for "art revolutionary activities". In 1910 Feigl went to Berlin, where he participated in the exhibition of the New Secession in 1911 and 1912. In 1928 he was a founding member of the Prague Secession and in February 1930 he was a participant in the unique exhibition of 19th century Jewish artists. and 20th Century, which took place in the Fénix Palace on Wenceslas Square. After the occupation of Prague, he was arrested by the Germans and taken to a camp. At the intervention of the Artist's Refugee Committee, he was able to emigrate to England with his wife. During the Nazi era, over 20 Feigl's paintings were removed from German museums. - The etchings to Balzac's Gobseck form a high point in his graphic illustration work. - Very well preserved.
