Language: German Order number: 143816 Remarks: * First Kaspar Heinrich von Sierstorpff came from the noble family von Siersdorf, originating in Siersdorf in the Rhineland. He was a Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttelscher statesman, who worked primarily as a chief hunter and forester. He has written several books on silviculture, with an emphasis on oak and spruce, and was the first to use the term forest science. - As an investor, he privately founded the spa business in Bad Driburg in 1784, built bath houses, a coffee house, a casino, etc. In the Kurhaus he set up a library and a picture gallery with works by Cranach, Rembrandt, van Dyck, Rubens and other important masters. He was a very tasteful and art-minded man, as he proved on his numerous travels. Even his honeymoon in 1776 lasted 10 months and led through England and Paris. The present trip took him with a small company in a short time through Westphalia and the Netherlands with the main destination Paris, where he spent 8 weeks. Siertorpff appears here not only as an entertaining narrator, but also as a profound art connoisseur and attentive observer of the cultural, social, economic and historical conditions in Paris.
