[xviii], 166, [2]; [4], 110, [2]; 93, [3], followed by 42 unnumbered pages of folding plates. Title page in red and black, head and tailpieces, woodcut initials. Collated complete and correct, including the half-title, which reads Isaaci Newtoni Opera omnia Optica. Italian full vellum, slightly marked to head, edges marbled. Early stamp to title page reading Col. dei pp del ss. red uditore, otherwise unmarked throughout. Dimensions: 25cm x 18cm x 4cm An early edition of one of the greatest books of science, one that started debates that are still continuing today. Though Opticks originally appeared in English, its significance was equally debated on the Continent, hence the reception of his theories can be traced through both its Latin and English manifestations.
