M. Ernst,M. Duchamp, A. Calder, F. Leger, M. Ray,
Dreams That Money Can Buy, 1st edition 1947! Hans Richter
New York: 1947. A small bump to the upper corner right, otherwise perfect! Printed wrappers, stapled. Layout: Friedrich Kiesler. Cover design: Collage by Max Ernst from his book "La semaine de bonté". Sophisticated catalogue made to promote the 1947 classic of experimental film of the same name by Hans Richter. The booklet documents the range and depth of the film, a collaborative project for which Richter brought in contributions from a who is who of the mid-century avant-garde. The film itself consisted of seven separate dream-sequences sold by Joe, the dream salesman: 1. Desire by Max Ernst, 2. The girl with the prefabricated heart by Fernand Leger, 3. Ruth, roses and revolvers by Man Ray, 4. Discs and nudes descending a staircase by Marcel Duchamp, 5. Ballet by Alexander Calder, 6. Circus by Alexander Calder and 7. Narcissus by Hans Richter himself. Other collaborators who contributed actors, designers, writers and composers included Julien Levy, Paul Bowles, Darius Milhaud, John Cage, Richard Hülsenbeck, Siegfried Krakauer, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, James Johnson Sweeney and Man Ray. The film had the prize for the best contribution to the progress of the Cinematography Biennale Film Festival 1947. 28 pages, 21,5 x 15,5 cm. 1st edition. Near perfect! [Attributes: First Edition]
Bookseller: zensex [Graz-Gösting, Austria]
