Edward Gorey *Handmade Figbash Doll w/original tag- SCARCE - IN GREAT CONDITION
1987. Gorey, Edward: Figbash Bean Bag Doll in multi-color fabric, hand designed and sewn by Edward Gorey. Approximately 6 inches tall, with a wingspan of approximately 20 inches. The doll comes with the original tag created by Gorey, which reads "Designed And filled with rice By Edward Gorey." The Figbash character first appeared in Gorey's book "The Raging Tide: or, the Black Dolls Imbroglio," 1987, by Beaufort Books (Peter Weed). Gorey also made hand-sewn dolls based on the Figbash character to accompany each of the 26 lettered copies of the book. The doll was hand-sewn by Gorey in black fabric and filled with rice. Gorey also produced a modest number of Figbash dolls in white fabric to finance productions on Cape Cod. Later, after the Gotham Book Mart asked Gorey to create additional dolls for sale, he used patterned fabrics and issued a tag affirming the doll was created by him (see Goreyana Blog). VERY SCARCE.
