Full vellum binding with yapp edges, hand written title to the spine, b/w pictorial title page, George Marshall book plate on the front paste down, text in Latin. Jacques Auguste de Thou (Thuanus) (8 October 1553, Paris – 7 May 1617, Paris) was a French historian, book collector and president of the Parlement de Paris. Pictorial Title page, 1-1241, 37pp of Index (lacking 38 and 39). A to Llll in gatherings of 8. Approximately 7 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine – good condition – hand written titles in black ink, worn top and tail. Joints – good condition – rubbed, held by 6 vellum stitches. Corners – good condition – bumped and worn. Boards – good condition – vellum boards with yapp fore edges that are turned over, marks to the front and rear. Page edges – good condition – dark brown. See above and photos. Internally Hinges – good condition – intact. Paste downs – good condition – plain, George Marshall book plate on the front paste down tanned and foxed. End papers – good condition – plain, tanned and foxed, signature of a previous owner in the top right hand corner of the front end paper. Title – good condition – b/w illustration around the title text, tanned. Pages – good condition – text in Latin, pages are very tanned and foxed throughout. Binding – good condition – vellum binding.
