[Photo Album]: Saginaw, Michigan Flood
Saginaw, Michigan: 1904. Very Good. Hardcover. Oblong octavo measuring 10.5" x 7". Black cloth over paper boards. Contains 18 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 3.75" x 4.5" to 4.75" x 6.5" with some captions. Very good with some edgewear and short tears with near fine photographs. A photo album depicting Michigan's "Great Flood of 1904" and it's effects of Saginaw. The photos are taken in the fall of 1904 and show the banks of the Saginaw River with debris and broken docks. One photo shows a blurry image of a man trying to gain control of two horses through the center of town. Another photo shows men moving sandbags and trying to repair damage after the nearly 25 foot swells from the river flooded the city. The remnants of piers poking out of the river can be seen here as well as railroad tracks and cranes with pulleys used for repairs. Although the fatality rate was very low with only one reported, the cost of the damage was roughly $2 million. An interesting collection of photographs depicting an intense weather episode in Michigan's history.
