[Photo Album]: Tornado Indiana
Blassy Studio, 1912. Very Good. Hardcover. Small quarto measuring 8" x 10". Black leather over paper boards with "Morocco Cyclone April 21, 1912 published by Blassy Studio Brook, Indiana" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 12 sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2.5" x 5.5" to 4.5" x 6.5" with some captions. Very good album with chips and tears with near fine photographs. A photo album of professional photographs taken by Blassy Studio in Brook, Indiana documenting the aftermath of the April 20-22, 1912 tornado outbreak in Indiana. The photos detail the destruction caused by the two day barrage of storms which results in 30 tornados in the Midwest, 10 of which were considered "violent." Decimated barns and houses as well as fields of debris and blown out windows are seen throughout the photos. One photo shows cows standing in the middle of their destroyed barn, another photo shows a group of children wandering through the debris. The tornados blew through Indiana and Illinois and according to a newspaper at the time the death toll in the area was thought to be around 100 people. An interesting collection of well composed photographs depicting the aftermath of an extreme round of storms.
