[Photo Album]: Western Travel and Family Photographs in the United States
Wyoming: [circa 1920]. Near Fine. Hardcover. Oblong small quarto. Measuring 10" x 7". Black cloth over flexible paper boards. Contains 169 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2.5" x 3.5" and 3.5" x 4.5", some with captions. Good only album lacking the front board with near fine photographs with some creasing and tiny tears. A photo album depicting western travel around 1920 including road trips and camping. The beginning of the album shows a camping trip outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming with photos of tents, local towns, and the landscape of the state. The travelers visited the hot springs and geyser in Yellowstone National Park. One photo shows a group in a coach captioned "Buffalo Bill's stagecoach" and is taken in Cody, Wyoming at the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede Rodeo. These photos also show the Cody Roundup with men on horseback performing cowboy skills with lassos and galloping horses. After Wyoming the travelers headed to the Pacific Northwest and visit Washington State and Oregon. There are photos of the city of Seattle, the Columbia River, and the forested area of Northern Oregon. One page of photos shows a dock in Seattle with boats and a damn that was nearby. They traveled by Southern Pacific Railroad and photographed their trip from the train with images of the wooded area and the nearby rivers. There are also photos from Arizona and New Mexico. These photos show cacti, small towns, and the desert of the area.
