(Detroit, Michigan): (1921). Very Good. Modern commercial binder. Contains 82 Gelatin Silver photographs documenting the construction of Detroit's Street Railway. Most (67) measure 3.75" x 6", another 15 are 5" x 7" prints. Each photograph has a detailed typed description on the back indicating the date, time, weather, exact street location and cardinal direction, and the subject. The dates range from March through June, 1921, with images of all phases of the construction, showing the equipment and men at work: digging drain trenches, laying rails, pipe, and concrete; welding tracks, operating steam shovels and steam rollers, pole machines and post hole boring machines, etc. An historically important collection of photographs documenting the municipal take-over of the City Lines in 1921-22, marking the end of a 30-year fight for municipal ownership of Detroit's electric railways.
