Half burgundy leather with gilt decorations and titles to the spine, spine has raised bands, elaborate gilt decorations. Top edge gilt; other edges untrimmed or uncut. 338; xi, 379; xi, 376; xi, 383; xi, 376; xi, 374; xi, 380 pages. 9.7 x 6.6 in. (24,5 x 16,7 cm.). Set measures about 11 in. (28 cm.) on the shelf. Introduction by A. Edward Newton. The letters were "newly re-edited, revised and corrected, including over three hundred letters not previously translated into English." Binding is signed "Stikeman & Co, N.Y." to the reverse of each front free end paper. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition rubbed and worn, titles in gilt to spine, top of the spine of Vols III and IV rubbed and damaged with loss to the caps (the very top). Joints good condition solid. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition rubbed and worn, whitened to the edge of the cloth. Page edges good condition darkened to the gilt top edge.
