Two related documents concerning the hajj,
Mecca: Government of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Interior, , 1974 & 1978. 2 pieces, large octavo, both 4 pp. Original self-wrappers, printed in blue. Portrait of Crown Prince Khaled to front of the Enumeration. Both pieces creased where folded into four, a few nicks and short closed tears, but overall good. Two very scarce, ephemeral pieces concerning the hajj. 1. Enumeration of Pilgrims to Holy House of God The title refers to the Kaaba within the Great Mosque at Mecca, the front cover featuring a portrait of Crown Prince Khaled. At this time Khaled was dealing with the affairs of the Governorate of Mecca on behalf of his brother, King Faisal, whom he succeeded to the throne in 1975, following Faisal's assassination. The centre pages present a table titled "Pilgrims who came this year according to their nationalities" and gives visitor numbers by country and region with totals for Arab, African, Asian nations, and the Emirates, with text in English and Arabic, the numbers in Arabic. The final page presents a table titled in English "No. of Pilgrims from 1355 H to 1389 H according to the Years they visited" giving visitor numbers per Hajj year (CE equivalent 1936/7-1969/70). This in fact covers 1355-91 (up to 1971/2), as indicated in the Arabic title. Blank boxes for 1392 and 1393 (1972-74) have had the numbers entered manually, and further handwritten notes in Arabic give data for 1394-96, and 1398 (1974-77). Before the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia, hajj revenues were especially important to the young Saudi Kingdom.
