Full details below. -The Spiritual Breastplate, or, the Breastplate of Righteousness, refers to the protection of the most important parts of the body including the heart, lungs and other organs needed for survival. If a soldier did not have a breastplate, he was vulnerable to an attack that could leave him dead. This metaphor refers to the vulnerability of humans without the needed coverage in God. it also refers to soldiers in combat and why they need spiritual guidance and protection in warfare against visible and invisible enemies. The sermons in the book deal with how war can be justified for Christian soldiers and why it is sometimes necessary. The portrait on the opening page shows the newly appointed ruler of Bavaria and Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire, Maximilian II Emanuel, shown in the portrait wearing his suit of armor including his breastplate that provides coverage in the face of harm. -Michael Stainmayr wrote many books on sermons divided into different parts of the day, from morning until evening. This books sheds some light on his sermons and talks about the newly appointed ruler.
