A fascinating study of the legendary prehistoric site on Salisbury Plain in England known as Stonehenge, commonly thought to date between 2400 and 2200 BCE. Edgar Barclay (1842 - 1913) studied art in Germany and Italy and belonged to the group of English painters known as the Etruscans because of their preference for painting Italian landscapes. He began painting rural scenes of Wessex, especially of Stonehenge in the 1880s and gave public talks about his experiences. [Attributes: First Edition]
