Volume one contains a Life of the Author, Adam Smith's letter to William Strachan, Hume's will, Account of the Controversy between Hume and Rousseau (translated by Hume), List of Scotticisms, and Book I of Treatise of Human Nature; volume two contains the remainder of the Treatise plus the Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion; volume three contains Essays: Moral, Political, and Literary; and volume four contains An Inquiry Concerning the Human Understanding, An Inquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals, The Natural History of Religion, and nine additional essays. This is a reprint of the edition first issued in 1825 (Jessop 8). Hume is one of the most important figures in modern philosophy and this is a handsome 19th-century set of his collected works. Very Good. A Very Good set with minor wear to the extremities and a small tear to the top left corner of the free front endpaper in volumes one, two, and three.
