London: J. Wilcox, B. Creake, and John Sackfield, 1720. First edition of this spurious adaptation of Boerhaave. 8vo. 328 pp. Contemporary English panelled calf. Provenance: W. Burton (early owner's name in ink on pastedown); some old unobtrusive pencilled marginalia. Binding rubbed and with some wear at ends of spine, overall in very good condition / From the Collection of Allan B. Kirsner, M.D. Item #401881 "One of Boerhaave's pupils published an adaption of his 'Libellus de materie medica', greatly amplified from the lectures of his master. The success of this spurious edition, followed by many reprints, shows clearly how much Boerhaave's teaching on the medical treatment of diseases was valued" (Lindeboom, Bibliogr. 337).
