Beautiful manuscript book with normal patina from age 1769 . Tight pages gilt edges . Please view description and photos for more info. A beautiful manuscript, dated 1769, titled Collection d'Hymnes et de Proses Choises. Harkening back to the medieval Book of Hours, these manuscript hymns and poetry are a Christian devotional, with a Latin passage on the verso (left-side), and a French passage on the recto (right). One hundred and three pages are provided in manuscript (title page, and "102" paginated pages). Many of the passages relate to the Fetes de l"Annee, but are not limited to them. You'll find passages for Pentecost, Easter, various Saint's days, etc.. A preponderance of the readings are specific to the period surrounding Jesus' death and resurrection. The beautiful "Dutch-Gilt" pastedowns are very similar to those attributed to Joseph Friederich Leopold of Augsburg (To Brighten Things Up, p.18, Schmoller, 2008). Likely Provenance - Title page reads "A L'usage de M.r le Dauvet." Likely the Marquis d'Auvet, who fought in the 1762 French Campaign in West Germany, under Louis XV. The 1771 Dictionnaire Universel de la France (Desaint) lists him as the Lord of Maineville (p. 71 Physical Attributes - Measures approx. 23.5 x 18 x 1.5 cm..
