Three letters concerning the present state of Italy, written in the year 1687- Robert Southey's copy London [1688] Later plain light calf. Spine hinges with splitting but neatly reattached, delicate Hinges chipped with extremity loss.. pp. 192 with errata. Some browning and staining. Signature of the Poet Laureate Robert Southey to top of title page and earlier signature, more contemporary to bottom of page. Southey's Bookplate to inner front board,showing coat of arms on a shield, suspended from a belt over a tree, lettered with motto 'in Labore Quies', and leaning against a rock, from which spring-water flows into a brook; helmet and conical object surmounted by cross at left Robert Southey (1774-1843) Poet Laureate from 1813. Also credited with introducing the word Zombie into English in his history of Brazil !
