This copy is very good in a good dust jacket. First printing is confirmed by the illustration on pages 304-5 incorrectly specified in the list of Illustrations at p.20 as being on pages 302-3, an error corrected in the second printing. The brown buckram binding is square and tight and shows no appreciable color shift between the covers and spine and only trivial shelf wear and a small bump to the lower rear corner. The contents are bright with no previous ownership marks. Spotting is modest, substantially confined to the endpapers, title page, and the untrimmed fore edges, with only occasional minor intrusions into the blank inner margins. The brown topstain remains dark, unfaded and only minimally scuffed. The dust jacket is unclipped, retaining the original lower front flap price, and the spine is untoned, with no color shift between the faces and spine. There is some overall soiling, as well as wear and small losses and closed tears to extremities, the most significant being a three-inch (7.6 cm) diagonal tear at the upper left front face extending to the "S" in the printed title and a one-inch (2.5 cm) triangular tear and attendant wrinkling at the lower rear flap fold.
