He worked primarily with wood engraving and his works were prolific. He had a very successful illustrated Bible which earned him a major exhibition in London which later lead to the opening and foundation of the Dore Gallery in Bond Street. This work is one of Dore's later publications, and was published around the same time as his 'Paradise Lost' and 'Idylls of the King'. The beautiful monochrome artwork is filled with Dore's usual dramatic style. With the poem to the start of the work, followed by Dore's dark, stormy illustrations. In the publisher's original binding. Collated, complete with thirty eight plates, which remain in a lovely condition. The plates are very bright, with just the odd spot. With half title. 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is Coleridge's longest poem. It is often regarded as a marker of a shift to modern poetry, and the start of British Romantic literature.
