Contemporary speckled calf, recently re-backed with the original spine leather laid over. Raised bands; no external title labels. Ownership marks in both ink and pencil from various periods to endpapers. A few minor marks to preliminaries; generally a nice clean copy. Bumped corners rebuilt; some marks and wear to boards. Skilfully restored to a robust, readable and attractive condition. Very good. A rare portrait of the Virgin Queen taken primarily from Robert Johnstone's 'Historia rerum Britannicarum' (1655).
