Mild to modest foxing and toning first and last few pages while majority of pages very good to fine. In fact so many remain uncut that it seems this copy is yet to be read. PLEASE NOTE: the book is entirely in FRENCH and I can neither read or write FRENCH. Be sure to view all photos. U.S. addresses and buyers ONLY. This is a major item of a towering figure in world literature and I think it fair to say world history. Victor Hugo, wrote The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (French: Notre-Dame de Paris) in 1831 that is said to have generated the interest and passion to restore and preserve The Cathedral of Notre-Dame. He probably is best known for his large, major novel Les Miserables that was published in 1862. One of the great novels of the century (or any century). And also a document in fierce defense of social justice, especially of the poor, forgotten, down trodden and miserable of society. Hugo became such a beloved figure that more than two million people joined his funeral procession in Paris. He is well worth looking up if you don't know much about him. He was a strong advocate for a United States of Europe. Elimination of the death penalty, free universal education for all children. He went into exile for many years. When he returned towards the end of his life his speeches and other documents were published.
