Very Good. Printed for J. Whiston, et al., London, 1771. Nine 12mos in contemporary full calf. VG. Two works together: the five volume Iliad and the four volume Odyssey, both complete. Iliad: Vol I: frontispiece, two plates and a folding map. Vol II: folding map of Troy. Vol IV: folding illustration of Achilles' shield. Odyssey: Vol I: frontispiece. Leather shows moderate wear to extremities; corners lightly bumped; small chip to top of spine of vol. 3 of the Iliad (see photo); very faint cracking to spine of the first volume. Light wear to boards. Joints remain strong and supple throughout all volumes. Bindings are strong. Boards firmly attached. Volume 3 of the Iliad has a small crack in the leather at the top front joint (see photo). Tops of text blocks moderately dust stained; small spotted stain to top of text block of vol. 4 of the Odyssey; text blocks are otherwise clean and tight. Texts are remarkably clean throughout: no foxing or markings of any kind. Bookplate on front pastedown of the first volume. A very attractive set in a well-preserved state with interiors untouched.
