JONES, M. Henry
Archive of 25 Paper Plates
New York: Snakemonkey Studio, 1970. Archive of 25 pizzeria style paper plates, the first 14 of which appear to be a rough story board for a short film by legendary underground East Village animator M. Henry Jones, as identified by an opening shot crediting his long-running "Snakemonkey Studios". The prodigious ball point drawings and notations throughout refer variously to the garage rock band The Fleshtones, a long time Jones collaborator, as well as lists describing various props and illustrations needed for the project (skeletons and go-go girls seemed to factor in heavily). A student of Harry Smith, Jones is credited for his late 1970s music videos and overall underground aesthetic that would be widely co-opted by MTV's early New Wave style. Some plates worn and stained; overall very good example of working notes.
