1800 account of the Kingdom of Ava (Burma - Myanmar) in ENGLISH with maps, illus
London: G. & W. Nichol and J. Wright, 1800. This is a large volume bound in leather. Wear to the cover (see photo). Please note: front cover re-attached with first three pages at left taped. However, seems secure. Both front and back endpapers marbled. There is a book plate inside the front cover. Please note the large folding map of the river is wrinkled and torn at the top, with some clear tape but is complete and present. There is mild to modest foxing and toning and a blemish now and then but overall a good solid copy. The illustrations are also good. 500 pages plus Glossary. Be sure to view all 12 photos. This is an important early account (in English) of Burma - Myanmar. Ava (also known as Inwa) was the capital of successive Burmese kingdoms. But this capital was abandoned after the major earthquakes of 1839. This LARGE, 500 page account has an extensive record prior to the capital being completely destroyed. I'd say this is a treasure trove of information on pre-1800 Burma (Myanmar). I located a similar copy on Abe that a distinguished rare book dealer in London has priced at $4,418. I'll make no bones about it, his copy is cleaner, fresher and more lovely than this copy. But it is essentially the same book. How much do you wish to pay for beauty and how much for history?
