There are no signatures, bookplates, or markings of any kind in the book. There is some wear to the inner and outer front hinge of the book. There is wear to the rear inner hinge. All 40 line drawings are present with none missing or removed. The 6 Black and White etchings are missing. The pages are clean and free of any foxing. The book comes with its original inner slipcase and outer slipcase. The inner sleeve is in good condition. The spine of the inner slipcase is sunned. The outer slipcase is missing the top flap and part of its lower flap. The book comes with its original glassine dustjacket. This is the limited edition printed by The Limited Editions Club in 1934 and is #56/1500 signed by Pablo Picasso. A rare find in any condition. Background Lysistrata (Greek for "Army-disbander") is one of the few surviving plays written by Aristophanes. Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, it is a comic account of one woman's extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata convinces the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace, a strategy however that inflames the battle between the sexes.
