Published London: Printed for John Martyn, 1673. 8vo., xiii+499pp; v+115pp., illustrated with an engraved portrait of the Duke of Venice, 3 engraved plates, including "an engine to raise water," and two folding plates of operational canal locks and gates, plus one engraving within the text of a device for retrieving coral. Ray was an English naturalist, who toured the continent with other naturalists to document and collect native species. Early rebinding in plain leather and marbled boards. Corners worn, spine chipped/cracked along the outer hinge, covers secure, spine label chipped. Ink splash on edge of one signature, bleeding into margins, reaching text of 8 pages with minimal affect - text still legible, otherwise very good internally, pages bright with only slight occasional toning, plates very good.
